Free Creative Activities
Little artists can get hands-on in the Gallery foyer with free creative activities inspired by our current exhibitions. This welcoming space gives children the opportunity to sit, play, create and explore while discovering some of the ideas, themes and techniques found in the artworks on display.
Designed to encourage creativity, curiosity and imagination, the activities offer a fun way for children to engage with art at their own pace. From weaving and drawing to building and colouring, there’s always something different for young creatives to enjoy.
Families can spend time creating together, experimenting with different materials and taking inspiration from their visit to the Gallery. Whether your little artist loves to draw, make, build or simply try something new, the creative space is a great place to experiment, imagine and be inspired.
Step outside and explore one of the most beautiful gardens on the Central Coast. The Edogawa Commemorative Garden is a one-acre traditional Japanese strolling garden, with a tranquil pond full of colourful koi fish at its centre. Fish feed is available from the Gallery Shop for $2 a bag, and children are welcome to feed the fish from the bridges or the Koi Pavilion. It’s a simple and memorable way to connect with nature and enjoy the garden during your visit.
Continue the creative experience with a visit to the Gallery Shop. Our children’s section brings together a colourful collection of creative toys, books, puzzles, gifts and other treasures for curious kids and the young at heart.
Discover fiction and non-fiction books, art and craft titles, manga comics, puzzles and toys that encourage children to play, imagine, discover and create. Whether you’re searching for a birthday gift, a creative activity or simply something a little different, there’s plenty to choose from.
Carefully selected with creativity, sustainability and learning in mind, the range celebrates imagination and encourages children to keep exploring the world around them.
Young artists can explore their creativity at Gosford Regional Gallery through our after-school classes and school holiday workshops. Led by experienced tutors, sessions feature drawing, painting and hands-on creative activities designed to encourage imagination and creativity.
Term classes: 8 weeks | $205 per child | $195 for Gallery members | All Materials included

AboutFace Competition
The Gosford Junior Portrait Prize is an opportunity for young artists from 5 to 18 years old to demonstrate their drawing talent and compete for a prize pool of $1000 (donated by Jocelyn Maughan OAM Art Foundation). Prizes are awarded to portrait drawings that are drawn from life. This competition has been running annually since 2009 .
The portrait should be of a person who is special to you - someone who is known to you and plays a significant role in your life.
There are four age categories:
• 5-8 year olds
• 9-12 year olds
• 13-15 year olds
• 16-18 year olds
To be eligible your portrait must be A4 and be submitted in person to reception with your child's name, age and contact person/number written on the back. Make sure to REGISTER your entry. Keep an eye out for registrations opening, where you will also find important additional instructions.
