ADULT ART CLASSES: TERM TIME
APRIL - JUNE 2010

 
The gallery runs an annual four term program of classes and workshops in art for adults and children. 
Each term runs for eight weeks, and subject matter ranges from watercolour to printing.

Weekend workshops are usually a one day workshop on either day, and these are a great opportunity to try something new.

 


A201 - WATERCOLOUR with Anne Brack
In this class all students from beginner to advanced, receive individual instruction from the tutor in all methods of watercolour including pen and pastels, two integral components of the watercolour medium.

A202 - EXPERIMENTAL PAINTING with Charlie Trivers
This Masterclass is designed for artists (from advanced to beginner) who are looking for a learning adventure designed to develop individual visual art language. The student will need to be able to be open to unorthodox avenues and suggestions Charlie is a very experienced TAFE and University Lecturer who has taught tertiary students to explore personal signature by a series of experimental exercises. The students discover the uniqueness of their own interpretations and use these discoveries to build upon individual aesthetics. Teaching will be a combination of group and individually, personally designed exercises. Learning will be serious fun. Charlie will also explain how these exercises relate to Art History and Theory.

A203 - MODERN PAINTING with Tony Tozer
This is a new class with the focus placed on working both on and with paper. An exploration of different ‘paper collage techniques’ as well as the development of working with various types of papers including all printed matter, stained and coloured paper, cardboard etc is taught. Drawing and painting will also be encouraged in association with the above.

A204 - PORCELAIN PAINTING with Aileen McLeod
This class is for the beginner through to the advanced porcelain artist. The subject will be wildflowers and a sample will be provided. Aileen will guide you through the stages of sketching your design, mixing colours and applying brush strokes to form the design. Paints and brushes will be supplied for the beginners. Plates to be purchased from the tutor. All porcelain art must be fired between colour applications and a cost of $2 for firing can be paid to Aileen.

A205 - EXPLORING THE ART OF DRAWING with Glenda Morgan
A new class that focuses on drawing with confidence. Each term focuses on a special aspect of drawing, building, developing skills and applying them to exciting and stimulating subject matter. This term is looking at ‘what makes a Portrait’, learning traditional skills while exploring various mediums of graphite, charcoals and coloured pencils. The fundamentals of techniques are taught and then developed in a modern manner. This is a creative and instructive class for beginners through to advanced.

A206 - CONTEMPORARY AND EXPERIMENTAL DRAWING with Glenda Morgan
A class that combines drawing and painting into a mixed media artwork. You will learn to explore and combine a series of techniques such as gouache, stencilling, monotypes and collage to combine these with drawing techniques using charcoal, ink and graphite to develop a new approach to creating works on paper. Within each term a series of work is produced from a single subject resulting into a stimulating range of ideas for the individual and producing works of beauty and skill.

A207 - OIL PAINTING - STUDIO PRACTICE with Ingaborg Zotz
The emphasis is on one-to-one tuition. This class will be driven by your individual projects and how they can be developed over the term and beyond. Using oils, painting in any genre from abstract to figurative, this class is suitable for all levels of experience.

A208 - IMPROVING YOUR WATERCOLOURS with David Clarke
This class will take you through a series of exercises to explain tone, colour, design and edges on a range of diverse subjects. Class notes will be provided and attendees are invited to bring in their own paintings for appraisal and assistance in developing and enhancing their watercolour skills.

A209 - MEANDERING THROUGH ART with Alicë Haigh
Anxious about acrylics? Worried about watercolours? Distressed about drawing? Perplexed about perspective? All these areas are covered and many more with tutor Alicë Haigh. The mysteries of perspective will be solved in an easy and simple way along with portraits, landscapes and exotic animals. This class is for the beginner or advanced student and is a fun but educational class. Come and advance your artistic abilities.

W201 - BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION with Belinda Biggs
This is a workshop for all levels of learning with the workshop will beginning with a full tonal drawing, then move on to a watercolour painting to complete a beautiful finished piece. This is a great art form that you will find very addictive!

W202 - WATERCOLOUR WEEKEND with Ingaborg Zotz
Enjoy a colourful weekend with the exciting paint medium of Watercolour. Look at shapes and how they behave in the landscape and still life. Explore their colours and textures and learn how to create them.

W203 - MINIATURE PAINTING with Aileen McLeod
Painting miniatures goes back over 500 years and a revival has begun throughout the art world! Aileen will teach you how to apply watercolour and gouache paint on watercolour paper. You will produce a delicate and intricate art form of a ‘special’ miniature portrait. This workshop is suitable for the beginner through to the professional artist. Paints and brushes will be provided while paper can be purchased.
Cost: $65 + $5 materials paid to tutor

W204 - PAINTING WITH WOOL with Catherine Stanley
Discover the rich and decorative process of felt making. Students will develop an understanding of the felt making process as you explore a variety of methods of colour mixing and forms with the highly tactile and magical technique of making felt fabric. The first day will involve making simple projects eg bags and mats. The second day there will be more complex works to create eg seamless felt, hats, shoes and musical instrument covers.

W205 - INTRODUCTION TO DRYPOINT ETCHING with Luke Shelley
This introductory printmaking course that will enable students to explore the processes involved in creating Drypoint etchings on Perspex. This workshop will be guided by Luke Shelley who studied printmaking at the National Art School. Students can create a suite of etchings and learn the techniques involved in creating limited edition prints.
Cost: $65 + $25 for materials paid to tutor

W206 - LIFE DRAWING with Anna Collins
Life drawing is diverse and Anna will encourage the use of different mediums from pencil, charcoal, conte crayons and pen to inks and watercolours. We will talk about the many forms of life drawing by many different artists and consider the many techniques they have applied. Anna will show how to truly ‘see’ the human body, by studying the techniques of form, line, tone and positive and negative shapes. Above all, Anna will show you how enjoyable life drawing can be.

This group aims to foster members’ learning and

Draw-in at the Garden
7, 8, 9 April from 10.30am - 12pm daily
This relaxing and enjoyable workshop is an excellent way to
learn about the beautiful Gosford/Edogawa Japanese Garden.
Materials including oil pastels and art paper will be provided, as
well as light refreshments. Artworks will be placed on display
in the Garden Tea House the following weekend (10/11 April).
Younger children accepted if accompanied by a parent.

Symbols and Meanings in Aboriginal Art - Annette
Kennedy
12 April from 10.30 - 12.30pm (WS01)
and from 1.30pm - 3.30pm (WS02)

Children will be introduced to Aboriginal symbols and
meanings to produce Aboriginal designs using templates.
The designs will then be transformed into a painting. A home
sheet of the symbols will be provided to use and keep.

Stories and Stitches - Catherine Stanley
13 April from 10.30 - 12.30pm (AC01)

In this art class children will explore hand stitching, fibres and
threads to tell an imaginative, textual story.

Ned Kelly - Wendy Bills,
14 April from 10.30 - 12.30pm (AC02)

This entertaining art class is based on the colourful works of
Sidney Nolan, one of Australia’s best known artists, famous
for his paintings of Ned Kelly and the Australian Outback.
Children will make their own sketches of bushrangers
followed by vibrant paintings to reflect Nolan’s strong images
of the outlaw on horseback.

Portraits - Wendy Bills
14 April from 1.30 - 3.30pm (AC03)

In this fun art class children will sketch and paint the human
face. After exploring techniques and observing the work
of master artists, line and colour will be used to creatively
produce portraits from life.

Jewellery Making - Sue Godwin
15 April from 10.30 - 12.30pm (WS03)

Children will love this workshop where they will learn to
create a treasured item of jewellery, a special gift for someone
or a precious keepsake for themselves.

Textural Drawing - Beverly Clarke
15 April from 1.30 - 3.30pm (AC04)

A drawing class designed to push children’s creativity using
graphite sticks, coloured pencils, oil pastels and watercolours.
Children can choose their own subject and will explore
their ideas with the assistance from the tutor to create an
imaginative artwork.

Mask Making Mega Fun - Max Stuart
16 April from 10.30 - 12.30pm (WS04)

Come on kids, surprise your parents…...startle your friends.
Don’t pull a face…..make one at the gallery where all mask
makers will be creatively revealed.

Collaging - Anna Collins
16 April from 10.30 - 12.30pm (AC05)

Join this class to create a collage using paper and objects of a
family member, a self portrait or representation of someone
interesting. Children can either work from photos or use their
imagination to create a fantasy portrait.

EXPLORING MIXED MEDIA FOR SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN
with Wendy Bills. Tuesday 27 April - 15 June (C202)

This exciting, diverse class will assist students develop
confidence and creativity in drawing and painting. Children
will learn techniques and observational skills using a variety
of mediums. Inspiration will be taken from master art works,
the world around us and real life objects.
